Anisette Biscotti

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Flour
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 Egg Yolk (save the egg white)
  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Anisette (or anise extract)
  • to taste Salt

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2:

Put flour on a board and make a well in the center. Place the sugar, eggs, shortening, baking powder, anisette extract and salt into the well. Combine with the flour a little at a time until all the flour is incorporated. Kneed the dough until elastic.

Step 3:

Divide the dough into 4 pieces. Form dough into sausage rolls about 14 inches long. Place rolls on baking sheets and bake at 350º for 15 minutes or until slightly golden. Remove from oven, brush with beaten egg white and slice the rolls on the diagonal 1/2 inch thick. Return to oven and bake an additional 15 minutes or until golden. Yield 80 Biscotti.
