Pasta Sauce

Pasta, with Meatballs and Italian sausage, was a Sunday afternoon staple for us when I was growing up.  We kept that tradition going for our kids when they were growing up.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans Tomato Puree (28 oz cans)
  • 3 cans Tomato Paste (6 oz cans)
  • 1 heaping tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1/2 cup Basil
  • 1/8 cup Oregano
  • 1 tbsp Sugar (or more as needed)
  • pinch Salt
  • pinch Black Pepper

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1:

Open all of the cans and empty the contents of each of the cans of puree into a large pot. Take each empty can of puree and fill it ¾ of the way with cold water. Swish the water while filling to get as much of the puree as possible from the sides and bottom of the can. Pour the water into your pot. Empty the cans of tomato paste into the pot.

Step 2:

Add remaining ingredients and stir thoroughly. Place on stove on low heat (Use setting 3 on a 1 – 10 scale stove). Cover pot but leave room for air to escape. Stir every 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 3:

Optionally add cooked meatballs, sausage and/or chunks of beef to sauce and stir. Continue cooking the sauce at low boil for about 90 minutes. Stir every 5 minutes to prevent sauce from burning onto the bottom of the pot. When sauce is cooked shut off heat and allow it to cool. Separate it into containers to freeze if desired.

New York Style Pizza Sauce

This is the recipe that we use to make the sauce used on our New York Style Pizza.   It is a cooked sauce that has great flavor and works really well on our pizzas.  We doubled the original recipe so that we can use an entire 28oz can of whole peeled tomatoes.  I make...
