Poppy Seed OR Nut Rolls

This recipe will make 5 poppy -OR- 5 nut rolls. NOT BOTH

Ingredients

Dough

  • 5 cups Flour (approximately, start with 3 and keep adding until workable)
  • 6 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3 Egg Yolks (save the whites)
  • 1 stick Butter
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 envelope Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Poppy Seed Filling

  • 2 cans Poppy Seed Filling (solo brand, use as is)

Nut Filling

  • 1.5 lbs Walnuts (chopped fine to medium)
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 and 1/3 cups Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Milk (enough to spread)

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2:

Heat milk until warm; dissolve yeast in it.

Step 3:

Cream sugar, salt egg yolks and butter; add yeast and milk.

Step 4:

Mix in flour; kneed until smooth. Let rise until double (2 hrs. in warm spot).

Step 5:

Divide dough in 5 pieces. Roll out 1/4 inch thick and 9×12 size.

Step 6:

Spread on filling and roll; let rise 2 hrs. in warm spot.

Step 7:

Brush top with egg whites (slightly beaten). Bake 350 degrees 25-30 minutes until done. Can be frozen.
