Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Poppy Seeds
- 1 cup Buttermilk (or sour milk – to make sour milk, add 2 tbsp of white vinegar to reg. milk)
- 2 and 1/2 cups Flour (sifted)
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Butter
- 1 and 1/2 cups Sugar
- 4 Eggs
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1:
Combine poppy seeds and sour milk: let soak overnight.
Step 2:
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
Step 3:
Cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Blend thoroughly.
Step 4:
Add vanilla to poppy seed mixture.
Step 5:
Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with poppy seed mixture and beat well.
Step 6:
Pour batter into well-greased 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. (touch cake lightly for doneness to see if cake springs back up) It may need five min. more to bake.
