The picture shown is an example from the Internet. I will upload our own when I make this.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tbsp Crisco
- 10 Eggs
- 1 lb Honey
- 1 cup Sugar
- Jimmies
- Canola Oil (for deep frying)
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1:
Place flour on a board and make a well in the center. Put the baking powder, shortening, and eggs into the well. Combine with the flour a little at a time until all the flour is incorporated. Kneed the dough until elastic.
Step 2:
Break off a piece and form into a sausage roll the diameter of a pencil. Cut into pea size pieces. Place in oil and deep fry until they rise and become golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Continue until all dough is consumed.
Step 3:
In a pot, heat honey and sugar until sugar is melted and the mixture turns golden. Remove from heat.
Step 4:
Turn pignolata into pot and gently stir with a wooden spoon to thoroughly coat with honey – sugar mixture.
Step 5:
With wooden spoon remove the pignolata and place on buttered dishes, shaping into wreaths. Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot honey – sugar mixture. Sprinkle wreaths with jimmies and set aside to cool.
