Bread Machine – Easter Bread

By: Lucy Romano • In: Bread • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Water (lukewarm)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/3 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3.5 cups Bread Flour
  • 2 tsp Dry Yeast

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1:

Add ingredients to the bread machine in the order written. Select dough cycle.

Step 2:

After dough cycle is completed, shape into 4 loafs, arranging colored egg in middle. Allow to rise on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper for approximately 20 – 30 minutes. Egg wash loafs before baking.

Step 3:

Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown, usually 15 – 20 minutes.

Tips:

Dye eggs in food coloring in water with a little vinegar. Put 4 eggs in pan, cover with water and add food coloring and vinegar into them. Bring to boil and shut off heat. When eggs are cooled, put on paper towels to absorb excess coloring.

Check bread cycle when it starts to knead bread to be sure the dough is not too sticky. If it is sticky, add a Tbsp. or so of additional flour. You will be able to tell if dough leaves the sides of bread cylinder.

Also, even though recipe calls for 2 tsp. of dry yeast, add entire package as the package of dry yeast contains 2 ¼ tsp. of yeast.

For coloring eggs: ¼ tsp. food color and 2 tsp. distilled vinegar.
