English Toffee Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Margarine
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg (separated)
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 cup Walnuts (chopped, or pecans)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: 

Preheat oven to 275 degrees.

Step 2:

Cream butter, sugar and vanilla; add egg yolk, add flour and cinnamon; blend thoroughly.

Step 3:

Spread over entire greased cookie sheet. Beat egg white slightly; spread on top to cover completely. Sprinkle chopped nuts over all pressing into dough.

Step 4:

Bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour. Cut into 1 and 1/2 inch squares while still hot.
