By: Lucy Romano • In: Appetizers, Pizza • Cuisine: Italian

This is the Sloppy Joe Filling for the Pizza d’Etna Rolls.  A great combination of flavors wrapped in a pastry dough. It wasn’t Christmas without these!

The recipe for the Pizza d’Etna dough and Pepperoni and Mozzarella filling are linked below:

Pizza d’Etna – Pepperoni and Mozzarella Filling

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Ground Beef (lean)
  • 6 tbsp Onions (diced)
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Spicy Brown Mustard (Guden’s recommended)
  • 4 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 to 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 lb Sharp Cheddar Cheese (shredded)

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1:

Heat a large skillet; add chopped onion and ground beef. Sauté until meat loses its pink color.

Step 2:

Drain all grease and add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Stir fry until mixture is thoroughly mixed and heated throughout.

Step 3:

Place mixture in a bowl and cool in a refrigerator. After the mixture is cooled, add the cheddar cheese and mix thoroughly. Yields enough filling for one dough recipe.

Step 4:

Place filling on sheet of dough and fold over in jelly roll fashion. Brush with egg yolk, make 2 cuts on top of each loaf with a sharp knife and bake in oven at 350º
