New York Style Pizza Sauce

This is the recipe that we use to make the sauce used on our New York Style Pizza.   It is a cooked sauce that has great flavor and works really well on our pizzas.  We doubled the original recipe so that we can use an entire 28oz can of whole peeled tomatoes.  I make this fresh on the day we are making pizza, and then freeze what we don’t use in containers for future use.

The original recipe can be found here:

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 3 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1/4 tsp Crushed Red Pepper (optional)
  • 3 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 28 oz Whole Peeled Tomatoes
  • 12 oz Tomato Paste
  • 1/2 cup Yellow Onion (minced)
  • 4 tbsp Basil (chopped fresh)
  • 2 tsp Sugar

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1:

Heat olive oil and butter in a medium saucepan, over medium-low heat.

Step 2:

Add the minced garlic, oregano, crushed red pepper (optional), and salt, and stir frequently until you begin to smell the garlic and herbs (2-3 minutes).

Step 3:

Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, onions, basil, and sugar, and puree using an immersion blender, until smooth. (You can also use a food processor for this step.)

Step 4:
Return the sauce to the stove over medium heat. Once the tomatoes begin to simmer, reduce the heat to the lowest setting, where the sauce just bubbles lightly.
Step 5:
Cook for 1 hour, until the sauce has reached your desired consistency. Taste the sauce and add additional salt, if desired.
Step 6:
Use immediately.  Divide what you aren’t going to use into separate containers and freeze for future use.

Mustard Maple Pork Glaze

We make smoked or roasted pork loin fairly frequently.  While properly cooked pork loin is juicy and delicious on its own, we do like to make this glaze with it, as they pair so well together.   It is quick and easy to make (about 10 minutes), and since it is reduced,...

Once we mastered making Neopolitan-style pizza, we made it weekly. However, being from New Jersey, our family missed the texture and taste of New York style pizza, so I set out to find a good recipe for it. It was about this time that Charlie Anderson was going...
