Ingredients
- 42 Saltine Crackers
- 4 oz Butter
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 12 oz. Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips
- 1 cup Walnuts (chopped, or any other type of nut)
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Step 2:
Arrange saltines in a single layer in the bottom of a 19 x 14 rimmed cookie sheet (approx.) lined with aluminum foil.
Step 3:
In a sauce pan, combine butter and brown sugar over low/medium heat and boil gently for 3 min. I do about 5 min. so it’s easier to crack.
Step 4:
Immediately pour over the crackers, covering all (and rearranging – careful, hot! – the crackers if they move while you are pouring).
Step 5:
Bake at 400 degrees for 7 minutes (WATCH FOR BURNING).
Step 6:
Take out of oven and sprinkle chips over surface right away.
Step 7:
Let stand for 3 minutes or so until the chips soften, and then spread them with a spatula.
Step 8:
Add chopped nuts and press lightly.
Step 9:
Set aside in refrigerator (or freezer) to harden.
Step 10:
Break into irregularly shaped pieces (or drive yourself crazy trying to cut these babies into rectangles). Store in refrigerator and serve cold.
