1/3 cup Poppy Seeds

1 cup Buttermilkor sour milk – (to make sour milk add 2 T of white vinegar to reg. milk)

2 and 1/2 cups Floursifted

2 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Baking Soda

1/2 tsp Salt

1 cup Butter
-
1 and 1/2 cups Sugar

4 Eggs

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Combine poppy seeds and sour milk: let soak overnight. |

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside. |

Cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Blend thoroughly. |

Add vanilla to poppy seed mixture. |

Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with poppy seed mixture and beat well. |

Pour batter into well-greased 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. (touch cake lightly for doneness to see if cake springs back up) It may need five min. more to bake. |
